My whole life, read from the middle out

I'm Monet. I'm eighteen, I paint in acrylic, and this is the closest thing I have to an autobiography.

Start at the eye. That first circle is England, where I was born, and it holds the pieces of it I kept. A red London bus. A sky that is always slightly grey. A friend's arms around me.

The circle around it is Belgium. I arrived there when I was two and stayed until I was fifteen, and it is where I learned to make art in the first place. There is an NMBS Euro Rail in it, and the Graslei in Gent, which is still my favourite place to stand. The paw prints are Coco, my labrador.

The outer circle is now. The West Coast of South Africa, where the bus became a red scooter, and the grey went and left me palm trees and a beach I can walk to.

I like painting things that are half real and half invented, and I think that is because I have spent my whole life somewhere in between places. Every piece here is an original, and every one is for sale.
